HOW IT ALL STARTED

Dave Edwards was ready for the world shortly after graduating high school, and he wasted no time rolling up his sleeves and getting to work! He married his high school sweetheart, Jody, and started working at McIntyre Oldsmobile Cadillac selling cars.

The owner, Bob McIntyre, saw a spark in young Dave and knew he wanted to coach him for success in the automotive industry. On his first day selling cars, Dave called everyone he knew and invited them to come see him. He sold his first car that day thanks to a referral from a friend at the Council Bluffs Fire Department. Dave was proud of his accomplishment and in that moment, he knew he was destined for a career in the auto industry.

In most circumstances, it can take years for an individual to be recognized and promoted. Potential is identified early on at Edwards Auto Group, allowing people to develop and improve their careers quickly.

The group's diversity enables us to keep up with the industry changes and meet the needs of the customers. Buyers have traded in campers, ATVs, motorbikes, imports, and many other vehicles. In the early years, the group even traded cattle and band equipment. Todd Edwards played the baritone in band and had no idea why; now he understands...his father bought it on trade. “No matter what a customer comes in wanting to buy, we can move inventory around to help them get top dollar for their trade,” said Dave Edwards.

Much can be said about the family business that began more than 35 years ago, but one thing has remained consistent over the years: we are here to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers.

Dave considers himself lucky to have been able to work alongside Bob McIntyre and Tim O’Neill as they mentored him as a young salesman. Dave worked his way up through the dealership and purchased a percentage of the dealership that is now known as Edwards Nissan. Todd and Brett Edwards (now partners) would later follow in their father's footsteps, working their way up through the dealership with their father as a mentor.

Although the Oldsmobile brand no longer exists, Dave still owns the dealership where he first began selling cars. He was able to do so because he was passionate about his business and learned at a young age that the key to success is to treat others with respect, honesty, and fairness—principles that Edwards Auto Group still embraces today.

Edwards Auto Group is a family-owned business that was founded in the early 1980s and has now grown to 14 vehicle brands, eight powersport franchises, 11 dealership locations, and over 700 employees.

This includes locations in Council Bluffs, and Storm Lake, Iowa, as well as Bellevue and Omaha, Nebraska.

“The Edwards Auto Group has earned manufacturer awards that few dealer groups have received. We credit our 715 employees and the pride they have in their jobs in achieving the highest levels of customer satisfaction,” said Todd Edwards.

One benefit that sets Edwards Auto Group apart from other dealerships is that they provide their staff opportunity to progress quickly within the organization.
